| Q5. Why is only 465GB recognized by Windows from the 500GB external portable hard drive? |
| ANS. |
In general, Windows system capacity algorithm is binary, physical hard disk capacity algorithm is decimal. To take 500GB hard drive as an example: 500GB = 500,000,000,000 Bytes , 1024Byte = 1KB 500,000,000,000 /1024 = 488,281,250 KB , 1024KB= 1MB 488,281,250/1024 = 476,837.16 MB , 1024MB= 1GB, 476,837.16 /1024 = 465 GB Therefore, the capacity of hard disk x 0.931 ≒ Windows shown capacity. |
